One crazy week

The weekend is here. This past week was CRAZY around here. It was my first full week of teaching. My class this year has 13 children. Let me tell you compared to the crew I had last year, who I enjoyed, this years crew is a lot calmer and excited to work. I do believe part of this is a numbers game. The more students you have, the more they feel they need to do to get your attention. This means children who struggle with self control are doing a lot more attention seeking actions. Children who are struggling with picking up on the academic skills need more help because they are distracted during the learning because they feel they are a step behind. I’m excited to see what fun things I can do with my students this year.

On the home front, Richard was traveling this past week. He left for San Francisco on Sunday. His flight was delayed twice. He returned yesterday and we were all happy to have him back home.

Blake’s school had a bomb threat on Monday. Some kid wrote the threat on the bathroom wall. They had to be evacuated to the HS, which is on the same campus. They were back in the building and learning in about an hour. Then on Wednesday there was a cyber threat made on the whole campus and they closed both the middle school and the high school for the day. Blake was furious at this disruption and was especially upset that this threat was made on 9/11. He saw this as disrespectful to those who lost their lives on that day. I love how much he loves school and the country. I love that he sees that this type of behavior is stupid and understands that most of it is attention seeking.

Both the boys had dentist appointments on Wednesday and I had one on Thursday.

Thursday afternoon I got a text from my neighbor telling me that Dixie had caught a groundhog in our backyard. Dumb groundhog! The dog is out on a run in the backyard and is out all the time. I don’t know why it got so close to her as they usually scurry away. But, this meant that I had to deal with the groundhog. Ugh.

Oh well… Richard is back home now. Today we are having a quiet morning and then we will watch the UCF football game and have pulled pork nachos for dinner. I need to go get out my crockpot and start the pulled pork.

I hope you had a great week and Friday the 13th with a full moon didn’t disturb your life too much.

weekend update

Well I enjoyed posting my blog hop. If you didn’t play along yet, it isn’t too late. Grab the information here and reflect on the back to school topics on your blog.

This weekend we were busy. Friday night we went to Pour at the Park. This is an annual fund raiser for Allegheny Parks. This was our third year attending. It is a great way to give back to the park we use so much. They have food and alcohol company from around the area come and distribute their products. We purchased a drink pass for Richard and a designated driver pass for me. In the years past, most of the alcohol based companies only gave away beer which I do not drink. This year I would have drank more as they had a few cider companies, one with vodka and another with rum… oh well!

They moved the location from the lake to the lodge. While it was nice to have real bathrooms and the food places were able to use the kitchen facilities a bit, I didn’t like it as much. In the past, Richard and I spent a lot of time just chilling out looking at the lake. Also there was no additional lighting so the tents that were not right near the lodge were in total darkness once the sun went down. The event didn’t end until 8:30pm.

It was still nice to just slow down and enjoy a bit of time as a family.

Saturday we got up and went to Target to get a gift for a birthday party Blake was going to Saturday night. Then headed over to Costco. When we got home Richard decided to try out his new chainsaw. We now have more firewood. Now we just need another day to have a fire in the fire pit.Image may contain: tree, outdoor and nature

After we dropped Blake off at the party, we headed into the city for dinner. Then came home to watch the UCF football game.

Sunday we had a lazy morning and then went to pick up Colby’s new bike. We got both boys got new bikes on Labor day. They got bigger frames bikes with more mountain biking features such as disk breaks and separate shifters and break leavers. They only had one bike in store, so we ordered Colby one since Blake liked the color in the store.

The boys and I went out do dinner. I swear the slider Colby was having was almost as big as his head. Image may contain: 1 person, eating, sitting, child, drink, food and indoor

Today everyone was back to school!

is it fall?

Hello all!

I have been busy in my classroom this week. We have got a lot done, but not everything. Then I need to get my head wrapped around what I’m teaching these little ones.

I changed up the whole layout of my classroom. I am also making some changes/additions to the play stations in my room. I want to add more play that will be less directed. I’ll share more on this soon.

I need to take some photos to share with everyone of my classroom layout and all that is going on.

Here on the home front, the boys are adjusting to school. Richard has been super busy with work and other life things. And, the weather is beautiful.

I guess fall is here, even if it doesn’t really start until mid Sept!

Where are you???

I did not fall of the face of the earth… sorry I’ve been MIA

Friday I was sick. I was dizzy, nauseous and had a severe headache. I have no clue what was wrong, but I slept almost all day!

Saturday, I still didn’t feel quite myself. I took the day easy for the most part. We ran some errands and then we went down to our neighborhood park. Our neighborhood organized a get together with bounce houses, food trucks and other activities. Richard and I came home and sat by the fire, but the boys stayed until after 9pm.

Sunday we did a few more errands and then had a quieter day.

Today… I went back to work! Now I’m trying to get back in the groove of working life. So, I might not check your posts for a bit. I may not post as many posts myself, but I will find my groove and get back into the swing of life again…. I promise!

last vacation post

Ok this is my last post about our cruise/Orlando trip. I had a few more things I wanted to share.

When we got our luggage delivered to our stateroom we noticed that the suitcase with Richard’s clothes had a broken wheel. By broken I mean the whole wheel, and the plastic that houses the wheel attachment, was broken off the suitcase. It was sitting on the floor where they had placed the suitcase upon delivery.

Richard and I went to guest services and talked to them about it. The told us to empty the suitcase and then let them know. They took the suitcase from our room and epoxied the plastic/wheel piece back onto the suitcase. This seemed to be a good solution.

When we got off the ship and were picking up our luggage, the wheel was GONE. It was broken off, but not the same way. The epoxy was still there, but the wheel itself was gone. We walked over to the information/help desk. The were very helpful. Originally they were going to help us submit a claim which would then possibly have Disney Cruise lines paying for the suitcase. But, a Disney employee looked at the suitcase and asked if we were going to fly soon. We told them we were flying in a few days. She said, ok what if I can give you a brand new suitcase that is about the same size, would that work? She went to the back room and came out with a suitcase that was around the same size, tags still on it. She had us repack the suitcase right there to make sure everything would fit.

Whenever we have had to deal with the help desks on the cruises they have gone above and beyond to make sure that everything was done to make things smooth.

After that, we went and boarded the Hertz bus to go get our rental car. We are Hertz gold members and this process is typically simple… not this time. There were two cruise ships that came in at the same time. Ok I get it, but still… The Hertz in Port Canaveral is tiny. There was maybe 30 cars and yet they seem to not be able to find any cars. There were people in the wrong lines. People who had booked the wrong size cars. People who booked the right size car, but it wasn’t available. It was a hot mess. We will not go back there for our next rental car.

We then went and visited some friends. The boys had a list of restaurants they wanted to eat at while we were back in Orlando. The first meal we had was Publix subs and popcorn chicken, for those who don’t know Publix is a grocery store. The friends we met up with that day thought we were crazy to pick up subs from Publix.

We enjoyed catching up with friends and family. We stopped by our house in Orlando and found it was for sale again. We then went and looked it up on-line and the new owners had gutted the main living space. Some of the changes I had said I wanted to do, some I thought were odd, but hey it wasn’t my home. We sold the house for full price the first day it was on the market… they have had it on the market since May, but it is a lot more expensive. I guess we priced it to sell and they are trying to at least make up what they put into it. I wish them the best selling it.

Ok I’ve shared enough about this trip. We love these cruises. This was our 5th and we’ve already booked cruise #6. If you ever have questions about these cruises, feel free to ask!

and just like that….

we are home again.

As I hinted at in this post, we were busy this past week… we were on vacation! We went on a Disney Cruise from July 17th, our anniversary, until July 21st. We then stayed a few more days in the Orlando area.

We haven’t really been back since our move. We stopped through on our cruise in Jan, but didn’t see hardly anyone. Richard went back a few times on business, but that is business.

We arrived home this morning just before lunchtime. I’ve already done 3 loads of laundry, Richard picked up the dog, I went to the grocery store. I also went and replied to comments on my blog and did a bit of blog hopping to catch up on some of the blogs I follow on a pretty regular basis.

I hope you enjoyed and appreciated the fact that I left you a few blog posts to read while we were traveling. I will post about the trip soon, once I upload the photos. But for now… I’m just looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, on my own pillow!

Weekend update

Helloooo. I know, I know I slacked on blogging this weekend. I wish I could tell you it was because we were soooo busy I didn’t have time. But, that is not the case.

I sat down on Saturday and started to type up a post and got no where. I didn’t even try yesterday. To be honest, I didn’t even turn on my laptop yesterday. It just was…

I was talking to Richard about it the other day. I find it easier to blog when I don’t have a lot on my mind. I tend to be able to type away when life just is, or we have things of interest going on. But, right now my mind is working on things I’m not ready to put out on my blog, and there isn’t much else going one.

Saturday we ran errands. We needed to drop books off at the library, stop of Target to get a few items, went to this wood shop Richard likes to get some things they had on sale, and then went to Lowes and Dibella. See, typical Saturday stuff.

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, shoes, sky, tree and outdoorSaturday night we went to Anthony’s for dinner… we love their food. Richard and I split a salad and stuffed shells. The boys split a large pizza, half cheese/half bacon. Then we headed over to Dick’s sporting goods since they were having a tent sale. We picked up quite a few things. We also went inside and bought the boys street hockey sticks. One of their friends in the neighborhood has let them take turns borrowing his, so we decided they needed Image may contain: 1 person, standing, shoes and outdoortheir own.

Sunday found us doing yard work. We mowed the lawn, well the parts of the lawn that didn’t get dug up during our projects, raked up some dead spots, collected branches for our wood pile and a few other odds and ends projects.

Richard spent most of the weekend working on the benches in the garage. They are nearly done now. He is working on adding epoxy to the bottoms to protect them from water damage. Then he needs to Image may contain: table and indoorround over the edges.  Soon we will be able to go outside to eat dinner.

I think we are going to purchase an angled umbrella so we can have an umbrella over the table, but not have to put a hole in through the middle of the table! Got to love these creations.

Well that’s it. You are caught up in our lives. Image may contain: 2 people, people sitting, shoes and outdoorThrilling I know! Just a heads up. Life is going to be busy for us the next week or so. I already have a few recipe posts up and ready to go, so their won’t be total radio silence. I’ll tell you all about what’s going on soon enough.

Hope you have a great Monday!

Is it Saturday?

It is crazy how off you feel when you are sick, I finally heard back from the doctors and I do have strep… at least there is an end now? But it’s not just that, Richard has been off work since mid day on Wednesday, so I feel like… what day is it? I love the fact that he has had this extra long weekend. It just makes you feel like… what day is it?

Yesterday, he finished up the table for the backyard. Today we went and picked up wood to start the benches. We, ok well I, decided that we should have 4 smaller benches instead of two really long ones.

Image may contain: table and outdoorImage may contain: table, outdoor and natureImage may contain: 1 person, sitting, table and indoor

As you can see, we’ve already moved it outside. I’m not sure that is where it is going to stay. I already told Richard we will see once we get the benches and the chairs we are going to purchase and then we will see where everything goes. There is certainly a few different options with the size we created the patio.

We went to Lowes to get a few things so I decided to purchase new plants for my front planters. I am trying to get more perennials so that we can eventually plant them outside and leave them there to continue to grow year to year. The challenge is we don’t have dedicated beds yet, so we are kind of planting things haphazardly, but hey it works.

Well, the rain has stopped for the time being, so I’m going to empty the old plants from the planters and plant the new ones. I need to put some soil on a few perennials we planted last week that didn’t quite get enough dirt around them too. Richard is out in the garage cutting wood for the benches and the boys are in the basement playing on the PS4. Hmmm maybe there will be a nap in my short future too.

Enjoy your Saturday, I’m still not sure it feels like Saturday, but hey everyone is home and that is what counts.

(side note, I will post a review of Colby’s recipe as well as the cherry chipolte pulled pork soon… not sure when, but I didn’t forget)

life

how I feel now

Thank you all for your concern from yesterday’s post. I gave in this morning and went to the walk in clinic. They swabbed my throat, looked in my ears, and did everything to figure out what was causing my discomfort… ummm you have allergies. Thanks I know that. So they want me to alternate Zyrtec and Flonase, rest and stay hydrated. They are sending the second swab out for a culture test. The PA seemed to imply that he felt it was possibly strep since there isn’t a sinus infection or pressure that he, or I, notice. My ear drums are bulging so there is pressure build up somewhere in my head too.

Rest and hydrate I can do. I feel like that’s all I have been doing for the last few days. Yesterday I laid down for about two hours before I needed to help Colby start dinner. Then at about 8pm I decided to go lay down again. I originally intended to just lay down and then go outside at dark to set of the firecrackers with the boys… yep that didn’t happen.

I will share Colby’s burgers soon. They turned out pretty good, not that I ate much of them since it hurt to swallow anything. I’ve managed to eat yogurt, shakeology and apples with peanut butter the last few days. Nothing tastes right and it hurts to swallow. Hey at least I’m losing weight, but I’m not sure this is how I intended to do it.

Well I”m going to go fill my water cup, again, and then rest up.

I didn’t run away… weekend update

I just realized that I haven’t posted anything since Thursday. I’m not sure why, but hey such is life. So here is a quick update on all the fun and frivolity that occurred in our lives.

Friday found us back at the theater. This was the boys second week of theater camp. This time they did Peter Pan Jr. This cast was made of children ages rising 2nd grade through rising 8th graders. This made my boys some of the older kids. For this cast both of the boys were part of the lost boys. They were twin one and twin two. While they have spent most of their lives  trying to convince people they are not twins I guess it played a part in their casting.

The nice thing about Friday was we finally had a day without rain. It was overcast and never really warmed up, but at least it wasn’t raining. Richard and I originally planned to go have dinner somewhere that we could eat outside, but by the time he got home we decided that Chick-fil-a was a better choice time wise. After the play, we headed to sonic. Colby asks to do this after every play. I got a strawberry limeade this time. This was a nice refreshing drink. I love that they used real strawberries and limes in it. I even filled my cup up with just water when we got home and enjoyed the lime strawberry water. I need to do this more often.

Saturday found us being a bit lazy in the morning. We then headed out in search of lumber. Richard has decided he wants to build us a farmhouse table out of cedar for our back patio. Finding the cedar wood needed turned out to be a bit more challenging than we originally thought it would be. We went to two different lumber yards. The first was 84 Lumber. Ok this is a big name lumber yard they must have what we need…. NOPE! Everything we wanted would have to be special ordered. We decided to check out a local lumber yard that we saw when we went to the a home show. This place was pretty impressive in their selection. I should have taken pictures of some of the cool wood they stock. They had purpleheart, zebra wood, and so many other types. We were able to get everything we wanted/needed there. This probably cost us more than if we could have got it at/through Home Depot or Lowes (which did not stock the sizes we needed), but hey we helped the local economy.

We then had a late lunch and headed to Costco. We decided to get the boys super soakers. Over the years they have had a variety of water shooting toys, but never try water guns or certainly not ones like these. They came home and decided to test them out.

We finally decided to get ready for dinner after 6pm. We decided to head to the restaraunt in North Park. We wanted to sit outside on the lake and enjoy the view. When we got there, there was a 45min-1 hour wait. We decided to stay and just go for a walk around the area. The boys played on the playground and then we walked over to a small bridge/waterfall area that we enjoy.

The food at the Over the Bar Bicycle Cafe is decent.. it isn’t OMG I need to wait an hour for this food. but the view and atmosphere makes is that much more enjoyable. This was my view from my seat at the table.
